This company aims to offer you toys that combine the elements of fun with teaching, so as well as lots of toys and craft kits to buy there’s a great deal of advice on what you should be choosing (and what your child should be doing) at each stage from birth to five years. It’s a really excellent resource (as well as a great shop) and I just wish they’d been around when I had my kids.
Here you can find Imogene Rabbit, Twaddles Osgood and Thelonious Monkey, Ziggles, Garden to Go and Wrap Along Bee, so if you’re not quite yet into the brainteasers and early learning ideas you can order from most of the websites in this section; just order something gorgeous from here that’ll probably become a lifelong friend for your child. (Tigger and Giraffe are you listening?).
This is a marvellous website to have a look round for toys and games for your pre-schooler; not only is it colourful, fun and well laid out, but there’s a really wide selection, in sections such as Bashing and Banging (great for small boys), Pull and Push Along Toys and Activity Toys as well as the straightforward learning variety. There are also some great wall charts to help to learn to tell the time and to spell plus the Maths Bus. Delivery is free on orders over £50.
Blooming Marvellous is one of those retailers that just has to be in more than one place because the range is so excellent right across the board. Click through to their Mini Marvellous Inspiration for 2 – 8s and you’ll see what I mean. There are dolls houses, activity toys and playsets, early learning ideas, arts and crafts, books and games and bathtime toys and everything is extremely well photographed and reasonably priced.
The baby and toddler section at the Early Learning Centre’s colourful website is well worth having a look round, as you’ll find a wide range perfect for starting your baby off, including bath toys, Blossom Farm baby toys, buggy and cot toys and just about every other type of baby toy you can think of. They make it easy for you to choose as, as well as selecting by type of toy you can choose by themes such as Action and Adventure and Art and Music.
Action Man, Bratz Dolls, Dora the Explorer (love that one), Little Tikes, My Little Pony, Peppa Pig, Pixel Chix (!?) Pocoyo, Polly Pocket and Power Rangers are just some of the brands on offer here. Then for tinies there are pre-school toys by Fisher Price, Mega Bloks, Teletubbies and Tomy. Provided you stick to the clear menus of categories and brands you shouldn’t get lost; go off on a tangent and you almost certainly will be.
I really like this website. When you reach one of those moments when you just can’t look at another hugely colourful and busy online retailer where there’s (probably) too much choice you can calm down here. Izzi Wizzi specialise in toys for babies up to one year old. For each product, (Tooting Teddy or Old MacDonald’s Noisy Barn, for example) they give you just the right amount of information. You can browse by age, product type or category and they deliver throughout the EU.
Smart Baby Zone provides a range of toys under headings such as Smart Toys, Smart Music and Smart PC which are designed not only to entertain your child but encourage them to discover and explore their surroundings and develop new skills. They’ve been sub-divided by age to make choosing as easy as possible and once you click on an item you can see exactly which development category it’s designed for.
This is one of the largest independent toy retailers in the UK with a huge range and an excellent, easy to navigate website where you can search by brand, type of toy, age group or price. Once you've decided what you want to buy and registered both your address and any addresses where you want your orders despatched to, you simply select from the standard or express delivery services, give your payment details and you're done.
The Kids Window is a real children's department store, offering children's clothing brands from designers such as Catfish, Inside Out, Marie Chantal and Budishh, a full range of baby equipment, activity toys such as trampolines, swings and slides and lots of toys and games. You can search on this website by age, gender, season and brand. or click through to each section of the range.
If you’ve ever visited this world famous Regent Street toy emporium (I hate the word but it’s the only way to describe this store) you’ll know that there’s a huge range of gadgets, games, soft toys, puzzles, stocking fillers and every toy you can think of at all price levels and for all ages. In fact it’s a disastrous place to take more than one child at a time as there’s so much to see. There’s a highly edited range here on their website although the list of products on offer is growing all the time.
Some general toy websites make you (me in any case) want to run away, they’re so busy on the home page. On this website you’re immediately drawn in, from the train running across the top of the screen to the clear menu, information and special offer details. They sell Playmobil, Thomas trains, Sylvanian Families, Lego and Duplo, Brio, Schleich animals and much more.
This one you’ll definitely have heard of (or seen no doubt) as the UK branch of the US toy megastore. Personally, I think the shops are just too huge to cope with so it’s great that they’re online although this website is one of the busiest around. There’s a fantastic range of well priced toys and equipment for children of all ages including MultiMedia PCs, games, bikes and outdoor fun products. You can also click through to Babiesrus with its selection for the younger members of the family.
Globalkids is a family run business originally set up to make the benefits of organic clothing more widely available and affordable. The range has grown from there to include baby bedding, natural skin care, fair trade toys, books and crafts. Their excellent baby basics include towels, vests and sleepsuits and there are cute clothes for toddlers as well.
Dillon Green specialise in soft toys and other treats for babies, with Steiff and Jelly Cat being the main brands. Then there are microwavable bears (they’re filled with treated wheat grains and lavender flowers and so you can warm them up safely), Minimink gorgeous fake fur scarves, hats and bootees, Miamoo products such as Cuddle Cream and Splashy wash and finally, for mums, Mama Mio pregnancy body treats.
Toys by Mail Order specialises in toys, gifts, games, nursery items and jigsaw puzzles for children of all ages. They offer fast delivery, a gift wrapping service and personalised messages for special occasions.
