This should have been easy, but it wasn't as although there were lots of seriously glam black lace dresses out there, some were astronomically expensive, others were a little on the (very) short side and still others so cheap and not cheerful that you'd probably throw them to the back or your wardrobe in despair after just one wear. Having said that, about the expensive black lace dresses, by Alexander Wang, Lanvin and other major designers, they were sold out in most of the sizes as well.

I was looking for dresses that would, in the main,

Flatter
Not break the bank
Last for more than just one season
Have that wearability factor that would make you want to wear them over and over again.

The problem also was that some of the black lace dresses I found were photographed so badly that you would definitely need to see them in the flesh before deciding to buy, which was against the point of this whole exercise - namely that of making finding the perfect black lace dress as easy as a couple of clicks.
